WAVES - Bereaved by Suicide in Taranaki

A safe, confidential and supportive workshop for up to 6 people also grieving for their loss.

The Waves group is an opportunity to walk through life lighter and not be weighted down by the complexities of a death by Suicide. Participants are guided through a 6 week 2 hour workshop with thoughtful material developed by Victoria University of Wellington Professor, Dr Chris Bowden. Chris' PhD was on young men’s experiences of losing a close friend to suicide. Chris designed and co-facilitates the Waves psycho-educational programme for suicide bereaved adults in conjunction with Skylight. He has worked in the area of suicide prevention and postvention for the past 15 years working with young people and families.

Participants in a confidential supportive environment will be able to:

  • Share their thoughts and feelings around what’s happened
  • Discuss the nature of suicide
  • Gain information and ideas about how to care for themself
  • Information on how to support others following a suicide when you are still grieving

This free workshop is facilitated by Rural Support Coordinator, Marcia Paurini and Rural Facilitator, Hannah Topless and is funded by Rural Support Trust.

The feedback from previous particpants is the value they found in comradeship and the shared experiences.

Rural Support Trust wants to help you work through your grief so you can live a lighter life with good memories.
